Cape Town is known as one of the most beautiful cities in South Africa, even the world! There is so much to do and so I’ve thought I would share the perfect 2 week itinerary. This includes all the must-see places while exploring the North and South Coast of Cape Town, as well as the picturesque Cape Winelands.
You’ll start your trip by spending six nights on the North Coast of Cape Town. From here you’ll make your way to the Cape Winelands for three nights and end it in the South Coast for four nights.
Once you have arrived at the airport, make your way to the car rentals. Having your own car will give you more freedom of moving around. We arrived at 10am and made our way to Bloubergstrand. Before we made our way to our accommodation, we first grabbed lunch at Saint Burger Joint at the Eden on Bay shopping centre. We also bought some groceries here for the week and then made our way to our accommodation. We stayed at the Dolphin Beach Hotel. Even though this is a bit further from town, the view of Table Mountain made up for that.
We decided to take it slow and settled in, so we walked along the beach and grabbed dinner at the Blowfish restaurant located at the hotel.
(You can also stay in Camps Bay, Green Point, Sea Point or Clifton.)
Day 2
We’ve decided to spend the day at the famous V&A waterfront. After we grabbed breakfast at the hotel, we made our way to the waterfront. It was about half an hours drive from the hotel.
We started by exploring the V&A Food and Watershed. Here you’ll find the best smoothies and coffee in town.
We then grabbed lunch at Gibson’s and wandered around the Silo Hotel and did some shopping.
We booked a sunset boat ride online with Waterfront Charters and saw Cape Town from a completely different angle.
The city lights started to shimmer in a distance and so we hopped onto the Cape Wheel. Afterwards, we grabbed some dinner at Quay Four to enjoy some fresh fish and chips.
Day 3
We started the morning before sunrise and made our way to Lion’s Head. This is one of the most popular hiking trails in Cape Town and I would highly recommend that you make it up before sunrise so that you can see Cape Town light up.
After this, just drive straight to the Cable Car to explore more of Table Mountain. Known as one of the seven wonders of the world, you do not want to miss this popular attraction. Grab lunch at the Top of Table Mountain and head to Camps Bay or Clifton Beach to soak up the last bit of sun. Grab dinner at any of the spots located right on the beach.
Afterwards, we’ve made our way to Kommetjie and walked along the Wooden walkway that is located at the Slangkop Lighthouse. Grab lunch at Kommetjie Pizzeria before making your way to Cape Point National Park. Here we did the short walk to the Lighthouse and explored the stormy point. We also drove to the Cape of Good Hope and spent the rest of the day at Diaz beach located in the National Park.
After a very busy day exploring the day before, we decided to take it slow and sleep in a bit.
We then made our way to the Bo-Kaap to explore the colourful houses and learn all about the history in the area.
We made our way to Sea Point to grab lunch at Mojo market followed by a walk along the Sea Point promenade.
Llandudno beach was last on our list, as we sat on the big boulders and watched the sun set over the horizon.
Day 6
Kirstenbosch will give you a spectacular view of Table Mountain and all the lush greenery. The famous ‘Boomslang’ canopy stands tall above the trees, therefore it is the perfect spot to start the morning. There are also multiple hiking trails to choose from and you can either grab a bite to eat at the restaurant or pack a picnic and find a spot under the many trees.
End the day by watching the sunset at Signal Hill.
Day 7
Check out at your accommodation and make your way to the Cape Winelands.
Start your trip in the Winelands at Babylonstoren. Explore the beautiful gardens and grab lunch at The Greenhouse Café. Afterwards go chocolate tasting at De Villiers which is located at Spice Route. There are so many great restaurants here, so it is perfect to wander around and grab dinner before you head to your accommodation.
The morning starts with some furry faces at the Alpaca Loom. There is also a shop and a restaurant which sells some delicious pies.
Then explore the Afrikaans Taal Monument and then spent the rest of the day exploring all the wine farms. I suggest doing this with the Franschhoek Wine Tram. This way you can see most of the popular farms without having to drive there yourself.
Check out of your accommodation and head to the South Coast of Cape Town.
I suggest staying in Gordon’s Bay or Strand.
Make sure to settle in at your accommodation and drive to the Steenbras viewpoint to watch the sun set in the distance.
Day 11
Make your way to Kalk Bay and shop around the quirky shops there. Grab some lunch at Brass Bell and go look at the friendly penguins at Builders Beach. End the day by watching the sunset at Muizenberg with the colourful huts as a backdrop.
Day 12
Check out the day before what time low tide is, so that you can make your way to ‘Dappat se gat‘ in Koggel Bay. You can only access this cave during low tide, so it’s important that you do your research. Other beautiful beaches to visit in the Overberg is Betties Bay and Pringle Bay. If you are in Betties Bay and are not tired of penguins, make sure to stop at the Stony Point Penguin Colony.
Lastly, you can take a swim at Gordon’s Bay Tidal Pool – if you dare to swim in the icy water.
How does a day trip to the Southern most point sound? Then make your way to Cape Agulhas. This is the perfect road trip. You can start by driving the scenic Clarence drive. Grab lunch at the southern most point restaurant – Zuidste Kaap, and make your way to the Cape Agulhas lighthouse. Take the wooden walkway down to the southernmost point in Africa and then walk along the coastline (or drive) to the Meisho Maru shipwreck. On your way back stop in Hermanus and grab dinner at Ficks restaurant.
