I am pretty sure that most of you know about the penguins in Cape Town, as this is quite a popular attraction for tourists who visits the Mother City.

Although most people usually visit Boulder’s Beach located in Simons Town, there is actually another spot where you can see penguins. And this one might even require a bit of a road trip.

Where to see the penguins in Cape Town?

Boulders Beach

There is no denying that Boulders Beach is the most popular spot to see these gorgeous animals. I can understand why! What is nice about this spot, is that you can wander around the beach while the penguins roam around freely. So you can get close and personal with the penguins.

Boulders Beach is located in Simon’s Town and is an hour’s drive from Cape Town. It is the perfect trip to combine while exploring the Cape Peninsula.

You can either hit the beach that has massive boulders scattered around, or you can explore from the wooden walkway.

Cost:

  • SA Citizen and Residents – R40 Adult / R20 Child
  • SADC Nationals – R85 Adult / R43 Child
  • International Visitors – R170 Adult / R85 Child

If you are a South African visiting the beach, do make sure to take your ID with you as they do ask for it at the gate. If you don’t have it with you, you will have to pay the international visitors fee.

Operating hours:

Monday to Sunday from 8h00 to 17h00

Check out their website under Boulders for more information.

Stony Point Penguin Colony is operated by Cape Nature and is located in the Overberg region near Betty’s Bay.

The drive here alone is one you don’t want to miss as you drive the Clarence Drive while making your way to Betty’s Bay. And let me tell you, this area is absolutely gorgeous!
