A day trip exploring the Cape Peninsula

The Cape Peninsula is located on the south-western side of
Africa and there is nothing as pretty as the oceanic drive along this famous
road trip. The Cape Peninsula starts at the Kommetjie beach and runs all the
way down to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope.

Everything can easily be done in one day, but you can break
it up into two days if you want to take your time exploring everything the
Peninsula has to offer.

Stop 1: Chapmans Peak

Probably the most famous and scenic drive in Cape Town is the Chapman’s Peak Drive. Chapman’s Peak connects Cape Town and Cape Point, and here you’ll have a stunning view of Hout Bay and the vast ocean. You can also start the morning early and hike up Chapmans Peak.

Stop 2: Kommetjie

Kommetjie is situated between Cape Town and Cape Point and the Kommetjie wooden walkway is located next to the Slangkop Lighthouse. Take a nice stroll on this wooden walkway and enjoy the salty air while taking in the breath-taking scenery.

Do yourself a favour and grab a bite to eat at Kommetjie Pizzeria. Probably one of the most delicious pizza’s I’ve ever eaten, probably because they are not shy with their toppings.

Stop 3: Cape Point

A day trip to Cape Point is a must whenever you are in Cape Town.

Cape Point is about an hour and a half’s drive from Cape Town. Definitely make this a day trip as there are many hiking trails you can do. In fact, there are so many hiking trails, that you won’t be able to do all of them in one day.

Apart from the amazing trails, the drive to Cape Point also provides you with beautiful sceneries. Just watch out for the occasional traffic jams caused by ostriches and baboons.

Cape Point is part of the Cape Point National Park and an entry fee is payable at the entrance of the park (see times and rates here). If you are a South African, do make sure that you have your ID or driver’s license with you, as you have to provide this at the entrance, otherwise you’ll have to pay the foreigner entrance fee.

Muizenberg and St James are located on the east coast and is only a 30-minute drive from Cape Town. These two beaches are famous for their cute coloured huts and makes for the most beautiful photos. It is especially stunning when the sun sets over the ocean.
