A one-day Itinerary
Here are the perfect stops along the Cape Peninsula:
Stop 1: Chapmans Peak
(📍) Chapman’s Peak is one of the world’s most beautiful coastal roads. This 9-kilometer route offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastline. Be sure to stop at the viewpoints to capture the breathtaking scenery and take in the fresh sea breeze. Remember to drive carefully, as the road is winding and narrow.
If you hit the road early, you can start with a morning hike up Chapman’s Peak.

Stop 2: Kommetjie
Kommetjie is a serene seaside village where you’ll find the (📍) Slangkop Lighthouse. This is the tallest cast-iron lighthouse in South Africa, standing at 33 meters.
Enjoy a walk along the wooden walkway located next to the Slangkop Lighthouse and enjoy the salty air. You can also take a tour of the lighthouse, which offers spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding areas from the top. Just take note that they do only open at 10 am and are closed over the weekends.
Do yourself a favour and grab pizza at (📍) Kommetjie Pizzeria if you have the time.
Stop 3: Cape Point Nature Reserve
(📍) The Cape Point Nature Reserve is at the tip of the Peninsula and a visit to Cape Town would not be complete without a visit here.
This is also the most southwestern point of the African continent.
Here you can hike to the old lighthouse, visit the Cape of Good Hope, and enjoy the rich flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for baboons, ostriches and the Cape mountain zebra.
An entrance fee is payable at the entrance of the park. You can check out the rates here. If you are a South African, make sure you carry your ID or driver’s license with you, as you need to provide this at the entrance to pay the local fee.

Stop 4: Boulders Beach in Simon's Town
After exploring Cape Point, head north along the eastern side of the peninsula to Simon’s Town. This quaint town has some charming Victorian architecture. You cannot miss the popular (📍) Boulders Beach which is famous for its colony of African penguins. These adorable birds can be seen waddling across the sand and swimming in the clear waters, providing a unique wildlife experience.
There is a beautiful wooden walkway where you can watch the penguins from afar or you can hit the beach and get close to these cute animals.
Check out their website for rates and more information.
If you want to split the trip up into two days, I would suggest spending the night in Simon’s Town and starting the following morning early at Boulders Beach and then continuing with the rest of the trip.
You can find some accommodation here:
Stop 7: Kalk Bay
(📍) Kalk Bay is a vibrant fishing village known for its bohemian vibe. The harbor is a great place to watch fisherman bring in their catch, and you can enjoy fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants. My favourite has to be (📍) Brass Bell – so make sure to catch an early dinner before heading to your final spot.
Kalk Bay’s main street is lined with eclectic shops, antique stores, and art galleries, perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll.
Stop 6: Muizenberg
Your final stop is at (📍) Muizenberg, a beachside suburb famous for its colourful beach huts and surf culture. Whether you’re an experienced surfer or a beginner, Muizenberg’s gentle waves are ideal for catching a wave. The beachfront promenade is also a great place for a walk or to grab a coffee while enjoying the sunset.
Stop 7: Scenic Boyes Drive
Complete your loop around the Cape Peninsula by taking (📍) Boyes Drive back to Cape Town. This scenic route offers stunning views of False Bay and the surrounding mountains.
