Rosemary Hill Farm is located on the outskirts of Pretoria East and it is the perfect hidden gem waiting to be discovered by outdoor enthusiasts. This idyllic sanctuary offers a variety of hiking trails that wind through the farm. Rosemary Hill Farm beckons hikers of all skill levels to wander its scenic pathways.

How to get to Rosemary Hill
To reach Rosemary Hill Farm, follow the N4 highway towards Bronkortspruit. Take Exit 18, Boschkop Road) and turn right. Continue straight on this road, where it will eventually become a dirt road. As you approach, Rosemary Hill will be on your right-hand side, clearly marked by a prominent sign at the entrance.

Information about the hike(s)
There are two hikes to choose from 5km or 11km.
The price for this hike (2024):
- Adults – R50
- Kids (under 18 years) – R45
- Pensioners – R45
Dogs walk for free!
Operating Times:
They are open 7 days a week.
- Winter – 6 am to 5 pm
- Summer – 6 am to 6 pm
This is a super-super easy hike that does not require any scrambling over rocks or facing uphill hiking. Which is perfect for a leisurely walk.
The Trails
You can buy your ticket at the restaurant close to the parking area. The staff here is very friendly and they will indicate the start of the trail. Of all the trails I’ve done before, this one is probably the best-marked one. Just follow the orange arrow signs.
The trail mostly consists of open fields, with the occasional walk along big trees and into what feels like a forest. You’ll also meet a few friends along the way (cows and horses).
The farm is not called Rosemary Hill for nothing, you will see many of the Rosemary herbs along the trail.
Once you are close to the 5km trail, you will see a sign indicating that it is the end of the 5km trail. Here you have the option to continue with the trail (12km) or to finish your exercising for the day.
I must say that two features stood out for me on this hike, which were the building of the ruins that lead into the forest part of the hike and the Camber bridge – just watch out for the cyclers. Unfortunately, these two features are only part of the 12km hike.
You will find the Acrobranching just before the building of the ruins, there is also the Greenhouse cafe, which is the perfect stop halfway through your hike to enjoy a cup of coffee.
Once you’ve crossed the Camber Bridge, you’ll know that the end is in sight.
You’ll also walk pass the horse stables right at the end.

Below is a map of the 12km trail. You’ll see that the trail crosses the R964, so be sure to watch out for cars.
What is nice about this hike?
This hike is perfect if you want to explore the farm and see everything it has to offer. While on the trail you’ll pass all of the activities they have to offer – from Acrobranching to horse riding, Segway tours, and also some of their beautiful accommodation options.
This farm is kid-friendly and is the perfect outing for the whole family.
Once you are done, you can refuel your energy by enjoying a nice breakfast or cup of coffee/tea at the restaurant, which is right at the start and finish line.
The best time to hike
It is important to note that there is not a lot of shade along the trail, so I would highly suggest you start the trail as early as possible (and bring a HAT and remember SUNSCREEN!).
They also have vendors at the farm every Saturday, which makes this a perfect outing. Start your day off with a hike, followed by exploring the different vendors. Don’t forget to walk through their beautiful garden maze!
Overall thoughts
This is a great hike for the inexperienced hiker who would like to get into the hiking game.
The hike itself does not offer a lot of different views, but it is still a great outing with the family.
