Why visit Harties Cableway?

The Harties Cableway ascends up the slopes of the beautiful Magaliesberg mountain range and is the longest mono-cable aerial way in Africa. The adventure begins as you step into the cable car. The modern cabins are designed for both comfort and panoramic views. This will ensure that every passenger has the best seat in the house.

Once at the top, you will have a spectacular view overlooking Hartbeespoort Dam.

Where to start

Once you’ve parked your car, make your way to the ticket booth. If you’ve decided to buy tickets online, ask one of the friendly staff members to show you where to go, as you don’t have to wait in the ticket line.

You’ll then be directed to the waiting line, which will lead you up a ramp to where you get onto the cable car.

Each cable car can fit up to 6 people. There is also a clear indication as to how much weight the cable car can take.

Multiple cable cars are going up and down, so even though the line might look long, it does go rather quickly.

Upon reaching the summit, visitors are greeted with a 360-degree view that stretches as far as the eye can see.

Things to do at the top

The summit isn’t just about the views; it’s also a hub of activity.

Some of the activities to do at the top are:

Restaurant

At the top you will find three restaurants:

  • 360 degrees restaurant
  • The lookout deck
  • Pizza shack

If you want to visit all three restaurants, I suggest starting with breakfast at the 360-degree restaurant. The name explains it all, as you will get a beautiful 360-degree view of Harties.

Then some lunch at the Pizza shack. Let me tell you, the pizza is amazing! You put in your order, they’ll give you a buzzer and then once your pizza is ready for collection, they’ll buzz you. This means you don’t have to sit around and wait for your food, but you can do some exploring while they are busy preparing your pizza.

End the day with some drinks at the Lookout deck.

There is also an ice cream shop at the top. When we visited (Feb 2021), the Pizza shack and ice cream shop ran a special where if you bought a large pizza, you’ll get two ice creams for free.

Get a massage

Other than the restaurants with stunning views, there is also a massage area if you feel like being pampered on top of a mountain. While getting a massage, you have a wonderful view overlooking the dam.

Explore the trail

There is also a short loop trail leading around the mountain, which provides you with various lookout points. There are also beautiful flora around you to admire.

Go paragliding

You can also do some paragliding off the mountain, or if you are not that adventurous, just watch as others soar above the sky. There are massive beanbags to sit and watch the paragliders take to the sky, or just grab a spot on the grass (bring your own blanket).
