The reserve boasts a network of well-marked trails that cater to different fitness levels and preferences. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a casual nature walker, Moreleta Kloof has something for everyone. These loop trails range from easy strolls suitable for families to more challenging routes for those seeking a more intense workout.
- Rademeyer trail – 1.6km
- Duiker trail – 3.3km
- Suikerbos trail – 2.9km
Check out the trail map here.
All these trails ensure a relaxed walk in nature. They are well-maintained by an active volunteer friend group called Friends of Moreleta Kloof.
Why hike at Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve?
Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve spans over 100 hectares, providing a picturesque landscape of rolling hills, dense woodlands, and open grasslands. The reserve is home to a variety of plant and animal species, including Springbuck, Zebra, Blesbok, Impala, Duiker, Bushbuck and Ostriches.
Moreleta is also a great spot to do some bird watching, so remember to bring your binoculars with you.
The Moreleta Spruit winds its way through the Nature reserve and provides a peaceful atmosphere when hiking. There is also a perfect spot halfway through the Suikerbos trail where you can enjoy the scenery of the spruit while listening to the birds singing in the background.
Where to start
My suggestion would be to combine the Suikerbos trail and the Duiker trail which would then be a 5km trail in total.
The parking area is located right at the entrance of the nature reserve. From here you walk in the direction of the information area, a small hut house to the left of the reserve, and then just follow the trail.
Once you’ve reached a sign indicating the Rademeyer and Suikerbos/ Duiker trail, continue left to follow the Suikerbos trail. The trail is marked and easy to follow.
Once you’ve reached the small dam on your right, you then have the choice to turn right or continue straight. This small dam area is also the perfect area to take a water break and enjoy the tranquility of nature.
If you choose to just do the Suikerbos trail, you’ll turn right and continue to the parking area. If you decide to prolong your hike by another two kilometers, continue straight with the Duiker trail.
Continuing straight with the Duiker trail will also lead you to the beautiful Flufftail bird hide. Here you can watch all the various bird life that this nature reserve has to offer. It is also a great stop point before the final stretch of the hike.
The restaurant
There is a restaurant located at the reserve called ‘Rademeyers’ which is also the perfect place to stop after your hike.
