The perfect 1 day itinerary
Here is everything you can do in Paarl. Make sure to leave early to ensure enough time at each stop.
Stop 1: Babylonstoren
Start your day with breakfast at the picturesque Babylonstoren (📍). This estate boasts meticulously preserved Cape Dutch architecture surrounded by gorgeous gardens.
The farm has an immaculately restored 17th-century farmhouse, completed by orchards, vineyards, and meticulously landscaped areas. The farm-to-table philosophy is celebrated at the restaurants on the farm, where you can indulge in exquisite culinary experiences.

Stop 2: Afrikaanse Taalmonument
The Afrikaans Taalmonument, or Afrikaans Language Monument (📍), is perched majestically atop Paarl Mountain. Designed by architect Jan van Wijk, this iconic structure and unique design represents the growth and transformation of the Afrikaans language. The three towering columns symbolise the diverse roots and influences that shaped it.
Surrounded by tranquil gardens, the site offers not only a historical and cultural journey but also breathtaking panoramic views of the Paarl Valley and the distant Drakenstein Mountains.
Stop 3: Alpaca Loom
A visit to the Alpaca Loom (📍) is a unique experience, offering the chance to connect with these charming creatures and explore the world of alpaca farming.
Alpaca Loom is not just a farm but also a working weaving studio where the luxurious alpaca fibre is transformed into exquisite garments and textiles.
Visitors can enjoy guided tours, gaining insights into alpaca care, shearing processes, and the craftsmanship involved in creating alpaca products.
You an buy from an array of alpaca wool products, from cozy scarves to stylish garments, providing an opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind souvenirs.
Whether feeding the alpacas, learning about sustainable fibre production, or indulging in a bit of retail therapy, a visit to the Alpaca Loom promises a unique blend of education and enjoyment for animal lovers.
Stop 4: Nederburg Wine Farm
Indulge in lunch at Nederburg Wine Farm (📍) with the scenic beauty of the Cape Winelands.
Set against the backdrop of rolling vineyards and the elegant manor house, Nederburg’s restaurant offers a sophisticated dining experience.
The menu was carefully curated to complement the estate’s award-winning wines. Whether dining indoors with the classic ambience or outdoors on the terrace overlooking the lush vineyards, visitors are treated to a feast for the senses.
Stop 5: Spice Route
Spice Route (📍) is a vibrant destination that invites guests to embark on a journey through its various artisanal experiences. Delight your taste buds with a visit to the Spice Route Tasting Room, where a diverse range of handcrafted chocolates, spices, and delectable wines await. The destination also boasts a collection of specialty boutiques, showcasing local talents in art, fashion, and design. The breathtaking landscape provides a picturesque backdrop for leisurely strolls, while the Spice Route’s eateries promise delights that perfectly complement the region’s renowned wines.
Stop 6: Die Pampoen Padstal
Although the Pampoen Padstal (📍) is not located in Paarl, rather just outside of this town, I do think it is a great stop point before heading back home.
This charming roadside stall beckons travellers with its warm hospitality and a delightful array of farm-fresh produce. The name, translating to “The Pumpkin Farm Stall’ is fitting as the stall showcases an abundance of locally grown pumpkins. You can also enjoy some authentic South African cuisine, with hearty homemade pies, jams, and baked treats.
