Things to do in Phuket:

We’ve spent three days in Phuket and here is a list of everything we got up to:

Visit Big Buddha

The Big Buddha is one of the most famous landmarks in Phuket and it is located at the top of the Nakkerd Hills. You cannot miss The Big Buddha as it stands 45m tall. Once at the top, you have a spectacular panoramic view of the island.

The Big Buddha is made of concrete and layered with white Burmese marble. The construction started in 2004, however, when we visited in June 2019, they were still busy with expansions.

It is free to visit the Big Buddha, but there are donation boxes. The construction of the Big Buddha is just based on the donations they receive.

This is a sacred place and therefore you will be asked to cover your shoulders and knees.

Hire a scooter and explore the island

There are scooters for hire around every corner. Just make sure that the scooter is in good condition and that you wear a helmet.

A scooter makes it easy for you to explore the island.

Phuket’s public transport, like taxis and tuk-tuk’s, are very expensive so a scooter will be your cheapest option. However, I would suggest driving around with a tuk-tuk at least once. It is a completely different experience.

Go party at Bangla Road

Bangla Road in Phuket is known for its lively nightlife and it only comes to life after sunset. At night the road is closed to traffic and it becomes a festival of lights, loud music and cheap alcohol.

You will find all the biggest nightclubs at the furthest end from the beach, with the area close to the beach being the most easy-going part.

I will not recommend you wander around Bangla road alone and not with children!

Enjoy the beach

Here is a list of the beaches that’s worth a visit when you are in Phuket:

Patong

Patong is the busiest beach in Phuket and was not my favourite beach. Here you can experience the buzzing heart of Phuket’s nightlife and entertainment scene. The beach offers water sports, beach bars, and a lively atmosphere both day and night.

Kata, Kata Noi & Karon

Perfect for families and surfers alike, Kata Beach boasts golden sands, clear waters, and a more laid-back vibe. Enjoy swimming, sunbathing, or try your hand at surfing.

Visit the night markets

There are many night markets in Phuket and they are definitely worth visiting. Here you will find souvenirs and also explore more of the Thai culture. This is also the spot for cheap food.

Take a day trip to Koh Phi Phi Islands

If you only stay in Phuket when visiting Thailand, I suggest you take a day trip to the Phi Phi Islands. This island is known for its beautiful turquoise water and you would definitely miss out if you do not go here.

I think it’s best to go to this island as early as possible since it can become crowded.

Where to stay in Phuket?

We stayed at the gorgeous Katathani Phuket Beach Resort and I was very impressed with the service here. It was also easy to explore the rest of the island and right on the beach.
