Thailand Travel Guide

If you’re dreaming of turquoise waters, lush cliffs, and sunsets that take your breath away, Thailand should be at the top of your travel list. We recently explored Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, and Ao Nang, and let me tell you—it was everything we hoped for and more.

Thailand is in the centre of the Southeast Asian Indochinese Peninsula and is known as the ‘land of smiles‘. The island is inexpensive when you compare it to other tropical islands, and the culture and history make this a magical place.

Information

Currency: Thai Naht

Language: Thai.

Luckily, Google Translate has this feature where you can take a photo of something and it’ll translate it for you into your desired language. I highly recommend you download this before your trip to Thailand, as most things are written in Thai.

Credit Cards and ATMs: Most of the main cities and retailers do have card facilities available, but if you plan on visiting the markets, then you’ll need cash to pay for your goods. ATMs are also available at most supermarkets.

Getting around

There are different transport methods to choose from:

Taxi: This is the most expensive option, but it will be your best option to and from the airport. Other than that, I would suggest choosing one of the other options.

Scooter: This is probably the most popular option and best way to explore the island. Just make sure you have an international driver’s license, as the police are strict here.

Tuk Tuk: This is also a bit expensive, especially if they know you are an international traveller, but I do believe that you should at least drive in a Tuk-Tuk once when you visit Thailand.

Tail Boat: These are best when you want to travel between the different islands and will definitely give you that Thai experience.

Ferries: This is perfect for island-hopping, especially the longer-distance travel.

When to visit

Thailand has three official seasons:

The hot season is from March to June.

Monsoon season is from June to October.

Then the cool season is from November to February.

Most people believe that the best time to visit Thailand is during the dry and sunny season from November to February. During this time, the temperatures are cooler, which makes outdoor activities much better. However, flights and accommodation are more expensive.

We travelled Thailand during the monsoon season, which is from July to October. During this time, you will avoid the crowds, and the flights and accommodations are at their cheapest. It is important to know that monsoon season does not mean continuous rain but rather short-lived rainstorms.
