Two hiking trails at the Mpenjati Nature Reserve
Iphiti Trail
This trail is a very short trail of 1.2 km, but the spectacular beaches along the way will make you wander off the trail and take in the beauty of the Indian Ocean. We were there during peak season (December) and we were the only people on the beach (well for most of the time). The beach stretches out for miles on end and is peaceful.
Yengele Trail
This trail is 1.8 km long and will lead you through the largest local dune forest.
Why you should hike at the reserve
What stood out for me the most, was the beach along the trail. Just follow the wooden bridges that’ll lead you to the most beautiful beach. As mentioned, we were there during peak season and were alone. I would go back to this hike, just to visit the beach again. So wandering along the beach will add a few extra kilometres to the trail, but it will be so worth it.
There are also picnic spots available at the reserve, so pack a lunch to enjoy after or in between your hike.
So whenever you are in the area, make sure to visit one of the hiking trails at the Mpenjati Nature Reserve.
