Adventure Travel Photography Gear

I love to travel and I love photography, and over the past six years, I’ve been sharing my content on my social media and my blog. One of the questions I get asked a lot is about what gear I use to capture all my content, so I’ve decided to create a guide on what I have in my camera bag.

Most of my gear is mid-range, and I’ve only bought these after a lot of research. When I invest in something, I like to know that I get the best for my money.

So here is what I have in my camera bag, and also some alternatives you can look at.

Camera bag

Let’s face it, you cannot walk around with all your gear in your hand all day. Especially when you are climbing mountains. You want something that will protect your camera. Therefore, it is good to invest in a good camera bag that is big enough for all your gear. Also, try to think of gear you would like to buy in the future so that you don’t waste money on a camera bag and have to replace it later on.

Unfortunately, the camera bag I have is not available anymore, but here are some alternatives you can look at.

My suggestion is to look for a waterproof bag.

Camera

When I started out, I mainly took photos with my cell phone, then in 2020 our travel plans to Australia changed due to the whole pandemic, and so I decided to use the money we saved up for our trip to buy myself a camera.

Now you don’t need the most expensive camera to start. I do suggest you start with a low- or medium-budget camera, learn all the ins and outs of photography, and then invest in a more expensive camera.

I grew up with Canon cameras, and therefore this was my go-to camera. When I looked into buying a camera, I wanted something that was still small enough to travel with. So I’ve decided on the Canon EOS RP. This is a mirrorless camera that falls in the mid-range price range.

Here are some other suggestions to look at as well.

Camera lenses

When starting out, you would want to invest in a lens that is very versatile. To be honest, I mostly shoot with my 24-70mm F2.8 L lens. You will see that Canon’s L-lenses (aka professional or fancy lenses) have a red ring to distinguish them from the rest.

Later on, you can start investing in other lenses as well.

The most versatile lens

Canon EF 16-35mm f2.8

This is best for wide angles photos.

Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8

Perfect for zooming in.

Drones

I was very excited when I bought my first drone. Being able to take photos and videos from a completely different perspective is amazing.

Again, since we use these for travel purposes, I decided to rather invest in the mini drone. I have the Dji Mini 2 Drone but I am saving up for the new Dji Mini 4 Pro drone. The vertical shot on these is a game-changer.

I do suggest the fly more combo, as these provide you with an extra few batteries, which is a necessity.

Mavic 3 Classic | Dji

Tripod

If you are a solo traveller or want to take candid pictures of yourself and your partner or family, then a tripod is a good investment.

Instead of walking around with multiple tripods—one for my camera and one for my cellphone—I’ve rather invested in a proper tripod for my camera and then an adaptor for my cell phone that I can add to my tripod.

Another great travel option is the Dji Osmo and Dji Pocket.

If you are not planning on taking your camera with you, then it is also good to add a small, compact tripod to your equipment.

Underwater Camera

Do you like tropical vacations and spending time at the beach or waterpark? Then investing in an underwater camera is a good idea.

I can highly suggest getting a GoPro, as these are not only ideal for shooting content underwater but also for adventure shots.

Accessories

Some of the most important accessories that you can invest in are a good memory card (even more than one) and extra spare batteries.

Look for a memory card that can withstand harsh conditions and has a fast processing speed.

Here is a list of accessories you can invest in:

Memory Card

Cleaning Kit

Leather Strap

Polarized Filter
